The cottage

The red-roofed building at around the center of the panorama above is the cottage. It's an "open-plan" (meaning that the two rooms are upstairs and downstairs, with no partitions except for the bathroom, small laundry room, and small storage room) building of 850 sq ft, heated with a propane wall unit and having washer/dryer hookups. It was remodeled in 2013 and is generally occupied with a stable tenant.

Graywater is supposed to be diverted to the outside in the warm months and used for irrigation. However a tenant found that washwater backs up into the bathtub because the hose connection doesn't let water escape fast enough, so the valve has remained shut for two or three years by 2020.

The base rent is $400/month for long-term lease. It's higher for shorter-term stays such as month-to-month or overnight. Utilities (about $80 for electricity, water, sewer, and trash disposal) and propane (cost depends on use and season) are paid by tenant.

There's no cable or land line. Free, high-speed, secure wi-fi service is provided.

The house is quiet and away from the highway, which is usually not busy anyway. You'll hear the quail crying and sometimes, at night, even the coyotes singing.

Smokers are not accepted. Dogs may incur a substantial rent increase.
